40 things i’ve learned in 40 years

1.     Life is unpredictable, no matter how much you try to plan it.

2.     There will always be someone “better” than you. Learn from them, don’t compare yourself to them.

3.     There is also always someone who has it worse than you. Be kind and help where you can.

4.     Live well in the body you have, don’t wait to enjoy things until you have the body you “want.”

5.     If you don’t love the body you have, make healthy changes until you do.

6.     Your value is not dictated by the number on the scale or the size of your clothes.

7.     If you have to continuously pull it up or pull it down, it doesn’t fit, and you’ll look as uncomfortable as you feel in it.

8.     Over-dressed is always better than under-dressed.

9.     Live a life that you’ll be proud to look back on when you’re eighty.

10.  Not every friend you make will move to new chapters of life with you…and that’s okay. Some stay for a season, others make it through the rest of your journey for a reason.

11.  You need to believe in yourself more than anyone else ever will.

12.  Take notes from those who inspire you.

13.  The type of people you surround yourself will show themselves in many of your decisions, moods, and the way you view yourself.

14.  If something doesn’t feel right, listen to your gut…relationships, careers, parenting, health, and whether or not you left the curling iron on.

15.  Better yet, always buy the auto-off because who’s got the time to remember to shut those things off.

16.  Your ability to return a shopping cart consistently is directly correlated to whether or not you’re a good person deep down to your soul.

17.  Whenever you don’t feel your best schedule an everything shower and blow dry your hair. Voila, instant turn around.

18.  Lip gloss and mascara have the power to cure nearly anything.

19.  Large hoop earrings increase self-confidence by 200%.

20.  Don’t put off til tomorrow what you can do today, unless you’re just really tired. Sometimes…we need a friggen’ nap.

21.  Ice cream is always a good idea. Unless you’re lactose intolerant or diabetic in which case, please move to the next one.

22.  You’re never too old for a bowl of pasta with butter.

23.  Many people don’t end up in the occupation they thought they would in Kindergarten.

24.  Sometimes you need to dabble in 13 different jobs in 8 different industries before you figure out who and what you’re meant to be.

25.  The energy you put out in to the world is the energy you’ll receive back tenfold.

26.  Be kind to everyone until they give you a reason not to be.

27.  Don’t lie…it’ll rot you from the inside out.

28.  Hard conversations are hard for a reason but necessary 1000% of the time. You will always feel better getting things off your chest rather than keeping them buried inside of you.

29.  Learning how to communicate properly is the key to solving almost every problem you’ll ever have.

30.  Marriage and relationships won’t always be easy, in fact they’re really, really hard, but they should always feel worth the struggle and each struggle should bring new strength to your relationship.

31.  Never stay anywhere where you’re not valued or you’re not learning something.

32.  Tell the people closest to you that you love them and appreciate them while they’re still here.

33.  Take pictures. A lot of them. Video, too. And if anyone makes you feel bad for it, tell them to kick rocks.

34.  Life is what you make it, if you don’t like something change it.

35.  Everything comes in waves. Sometimes the waves are calm and peaceful. Other times they’ll knock you on your ass. Learn to ride them accordingly.

36.  The sun comes back out after every single storm.

37.  If it makes you raise an eyebrow, wrinkle your nose, or shake your head in disgust, it’s not worth your time.

38.  Learn to say “no thank you” to things you don’t want to do and don’t feel bad about it.

39.  When people show you who they are, believe them.

40.  Never let anyone dull your shine.
